QUILTING: Ice Castles

This beautiful, and what appears to be intricate quilt, can be quickly adapted to any color range of 8 fabrics from light to dark.  The foundation strip piecing technique used to make this quilt involves sewing 2"  strips of fabric under the foundation paper to create a strip set.  The strip sets are cut apart and trimmed to the proper size after the sewing is completed.  This is done to speed up the piecing process and eliminate the stretching issue that normally occurs when sewing a strata of strips together for a Lone Star.  There are no "Y" seams in this quilt.  This quilt consists of 48 diamonds, with 3 different configurations of 16 diamonds each.  This class will be divided into two sessions.  The first to explain paper piecing, organization and any cutting instructions needed to start sewing the strips on to the paper.  The first session will also cover sewing the strips on to the paper.   The final class will assist you in cutting apart the strip sets and sewing the rows together to create the unit Lone Star design diamonds, and assembling the diamonds after adding the sashings.

There will be homework prior to and in between the classes.

This is a Judy Niemeyer pattern.

This is a great beginner class.
